Saving people does not guarantee your own security. Only God does.

The Voice,  The Challenge.
God might tell you, to go to a place and achieve success. But, because he gave the order, does not mean challenges will not arise. God expects us to be calm and ask him questions on what to do.

So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines,... smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.  And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.  And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And SAUL said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.
1 Samuel 23:5‭-‬7 KJV

GOD encouraged David to go to the battle and gave him a way out, when issues arose. The people of Israel was faced with similar issue at the Red Sea but scaled through because Moses ENQUIRED OF THE LORD..

David found out his fate: if he was to stay to in Keilah, or to leave. And it was a good one because he used his brain in asking God the questions.
Then said David, O Lord God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake. Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O Lord God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the Lord said, He will come down. Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the Lord said, They will deliver thee up.
1 Samuel 23:10‭-‬12 KJV

Never make assumptions when dealing with God. Always ask the RIGHT questions. God gave you a brain to think. irrespective of the fact that David had saved the people of Keilah, they would still have handed him over to Saul. It's evident that the people of Keilah loved themselves so much and were not willing to SACRIFICE.
Never expect HELP FROM A MAN BECAUSE YOU HELPED HIM. Keep helping because it's God's will. David did not relent because they would have refused to help him. He knew it was one of the THROES of being a HERO.

WELL don't blame them. It was their level of growth and understanding. Besides, nobody likes to wage a war they can not win. DAVID did not put his faith in man hence, God gave him an answer..

God did not force David, but gave him a choice to do what was right with the information that he had. Some of us are struggling today as a result of the wrong choices, we have made. Irrespective of the sound information that God has placed on our table.

It is easy for people to say, "just serve the Lord and everything will be settled."
Hmm...this is not entirely true. But it is true that when you serve the Lord, the Devil becomes more interested in you, and seeks to destroy you but trust God to deliver you, only if you follow his instruction per time.
Your choice will determine if you will be saved. Utilize the information you have at your disposal.

And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.
1 Samuel 23:14 KJV

When people hear what God has to say about their destiny,  they feel extremely happy and are carried away by the sound of the VISION, and forget about the MISSION.

David must have been happy when Samuel came to anoint him King and it's possible his brother's must have termed him lucky or even envied him. But I believe their thoughts must have changed when they saw how David was being persecuted because of that VISION.

You might want to give up because of that challenge  your vision has brought, but GOD ALWAYS HAS A WAY OF WINNING. You might even think that the Vision is too big. Well that is why it's from God. If the vision is not bigger than you, then it is not from God.

David might have wondered whether it was a crime to accept the WORD OF THE LORD, because he was always running away from Saul and just could not kill the Lord's anointed (Saul).

Privileges comes with responsibilities. Never give up, just keep listening and acting on what God has made you to understand and you will never miss it.
When you are obedient to God, friends of your enemy will join you, to fight with you.
And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of SAUL my FATHER shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.  And they two made a covenant before the Lord : and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.
1 Samuel 23:17‭-‬18 KJV.

Being a hero or a champion comes with great sacrifice. How much are you willing to sacrifice?
